Abstract:
The article discusses field evidence, available test data, and a simple mechanical construct all suggesting that 1× √f’ c can be used as a pragmatic lower bound to shear strength of reinforced concrete beams and one-way slabs without transverse reinforcement, at least within certain ranges.
