Abstract:

Code criteria for deflection limitation in reinforced concrete structures, from a number of countries, are reviewed and the two major methods used for deflection limitation are discussed. These methods are: limiting deflections to a fraction of the span length, and limiting the span-to-depth ratio.

A comparision is made between measured and calculated long-term deflections of flexural members in four buildings. The measured deflections were found to exceed those obtained by calculation using the ACI Code method.
