Abstract:
Marilyn Jorgenson Reece was the first female Resident Engineer for any construction project at the Division of Highways at Caltrans. Staff members working under Reece’s leadership in the Los Angeles office of Caltrans performed the highway engineering portion of the I-10/I-405 Freeway Interchange, also known as the Santa Monica/San Diego Interchange. This interchange design was so effective it was used as an example and inspiration for following interchanges in California.
