The American Concrete Institute (ACI) has successfully conducted its first Spanish-language certification exams for Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade 1 and Concrete Strength Testing Technician at the ACI Southern California Resource Center, marking a significant milestone in ACI’s ongoing commitment to workforce development and providing information in multiple languages across the concrete industry.
The exams provided Spanish-speaking professionals the opportunity to earn internationally recognized ACI certifications in their primary language, helping remove barriers to participation while maintaining ACI’s rigorous technical standards.
“These first Spanish-language-based sessions represent an important step forward for ACI Resource Centers and the concrete industry as a whole,” said Michael Morrison, director, ACI Certification Program Development. “By expanding access to ACI Certification review and training sessions exclusively in Spanish, we are supporting a broader segment of the workforce, strengthening quality assurance in the field, and reinforcing ACI’s mission to advance concrete knowledge worldwide. We plan to have more of our programs available in Spanish-only format later this year.”
The Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade 1 certification validates an individual’s knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete, while the Concrete Strength Testing Technician certification focuses on an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of four basic laboratory procedures related to the determination of concrete compressive and flexural strength. Both certifications are widely recognized across the industry and are often required by project specifications, agencies, and employers.
The Spanish-language exams followed the same standardized ACI certification program structure, including written and performance components, ensuring consistency with English-language offerings. Exams were administered by ACI-certified examiners and conducted in accordance with ACI Certification policies.
Demand for Spanish-language certification opportunities continues to grow as the concrete industry seeks to attract, develop, and retain skilled professionals. ACI’s Southern California Resource Center, one of ACI’s three Resource Centers for education, training, and certification, was an ideal location to launch this initiative. A second session is offered at the Chicago/Midwest Resource Center, March 2 – 4 , 2026.
Building on the success of this first administration, ACI plans to continue expanding Spanish-language certification offerings and explore additional opportunities to serve the global and multilingual concrete workforce. Today, ACI offers more than 65 of its documents in Spanish in the ACI Bookstore.
