The American Concrete Institute (ACI) collaborated with Don Construction Products (DCP) to host its second five-day in-house seminar series, spanning from November 10th to December 17th in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The series, “Concrete Standards and Practices: Ensuring Quality, Sustainability, and Performance,” highlighted cementitious materials, strength testing, curing methods, the value of applying ACI CODE- 323-24 requirements, and the benefits of using carbon neutral cement types. DCP is a manufacturer and supplier of construction chemicals and building materials, with over 90 years of experience serving the construction industry with innovative products and solutions. DCP is a global company with operations in Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Asia. ACI thanks DCP for its sponsorship and values the continued commitment to disseminating knowledge and resources in collaboration with ACI’s international team. Key takeaways included: Understanding the role of sustainably advantaged cement types, such as Portland Limestone Cement and Portland Pozzolana Cement, in reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainability in concrete production. Recognizing the benefits and application of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) such as GGBFS, fly ash, and pozzolans in lowering the carbon footprint of concrete while maintaining performance. Gaining knowledge of the ACI CODE-323-24 requirements and commentary for low-carbon concrete, including practical use of the ACI GWP calculator for evaluating environmental impacts. Learning to apply ASTM and ACI standards in cement specification review, quality control processes, and managing chemical variations to ensure consistent cement performance. Developing skills to interpret low compressive strength test results in accordance with ACI guidelines and implement effective investigative and corrective actions to address strength deficiencies. Acquiring an understanding of various concrete curing methods, their impact on concrete quality, and best practices for crack mitigation and repair following ACI standards. Seminar Occurrence Dates and Locations: Dammam: Monday, November 10 Riyadh: Monday and Tuesday, December 1 and 2 (2 different groups) Jeddah: Monday, December 15 Madinah: Wednesday, December 17 ACI encourages organizations across the concrete industry to engage with ACI through educational event involvement.
