ACI Past President Antonio Nanni is at COP30 Brazil this week, representing ACI to reaffirm our leadership in the world of concrete and to make sure our commitment to our strategic goal of advancing resiliency and sustainability in the construction industry is communicated. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the largest global United Nations event for discussions and negotiations on climate change. The meeting is held annually, with the presidency rotating among the five UN-recognized regions. Dr. Nanni is providing a daily report from the event floor. Watch his latest video from Belém.

As COP30 entered its fourth day, conversations continued to focus on the frameworks needed to translate climate goals into measurable progress. For me, Thursday centered on the work of energy and water conservation strategies and the standards that promote sustainability.
I spent much of the day in two pavilions that showcased advancements in resource efficiency and the critical role that technical standards play in shaping sustainable solutions. These pavilion meetings provided a close look at how governments, industry leaders, and standards development organizations (SDO) are evolving their frameworks to align with global climate targets.
Day 4 also provided me with the opportunity to conduct three in-depth interviews with leaders who each bring a unique perspective to sustainability, construction, and engineering.
