Scope, Requirements, and Certification Overview
Scope and Knowledge

This certification is based on the Job Task Analysis (JTA) for the ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector Certification, which defines the core knowledge areas evaluated in the examinations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to use the JTA as their primary preparation guide.
Certification Requirements
To obtain Concrete Construction Special Inspector certification, candidates must:
Examinations
• Pass the written inspection examination
• Pass the plans reading (blueprint reading) examination
• Meet the ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I requirement by:
o Holding a current Grade I certification, or
o Having been previously certified and passing the current Grade I written exam within one year of the Inspector exam*
Education and Work Experience
Candidates must meet one of the following:
• B.S. in Civil/Construction/Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited) + 6 months experience
• B.S. in Engineering + 1 year experience
• Minimum 60 college or technical school credits + 2 years experience
• High school diploma (or equivalent) + 3 years experience
• 5 years of satisfactory work experience
Work Experience Must Include
• Decision-making responsibility
• Verification of compliance with plans, specifications, and codes
• Field evaluation of concrete construction
• Documentation and reporting of inspections
• Proficiency in concrete construction inspection activities
Employer verification of work experience is required.

Examination Format
• Written inspection exam:
o 3 hours | Open-book | ~80 multiple-choice questions
• Plans reading exam:
o 1 hour | ~20 questions
• Minimum passing score: 70% on each exam

Certification Validity
• Certification is valid for 5 years
Recertification
• Fulfillment of Field Testing Technician requirements
• Successful completion of inspection and plans reading exams

Associate Concrete Construction Special Inspector
• Requires meeting Field Testing Technician requirements
• Passing both written examinations
• May upgrade to full Inspector status upon approval of sufficient education and work experience
• Valid for 5 years, with the same recertification requirements


Theoretical sessions: Apri 18,25 and May 9,16,23,30
Examination: June 27
