In the past few years, the concrete industry has seen the most prevalent cement in the market change to portland limestone cement (PLC), an ASTM C595 Type IL blended cement. Cement companies are now exploring other cements under the ASTM C595 blended cement umbrella like Type IP (portland pozzolan) and Type IT (ternary portland, pozzolan and limestone). This talk addresses what research tells us about the performance of these blended cements and what we can expect based on what we already know and use in the industry. Implementation will vary based on regional availability of pozzolans and choices of cement and concrete producers, but there are some commonalities that we can all learn from.
