CALL FOR PAPERS
ACI Materials Journal Special Issue
Theme “Next-Gen Concrete with Saline Water, Dredged or Dune Sand- Research, Innovations, Applications and Challenges”
Guest Editors
Antonio Nanni Ph.D., P.E., FACI, Neven Krstulović-Opara Ph.D., P.E., FACI and Mahmut EKENEL, Ph.D., P.E., FACI
Original papers are invited for a special issue of the ACI Materials Journal on original research and case studies regarding the use of saline water (particularly seawater, but also brine or produced water), and dune or dredged sand in concrete production. Exploring the effects of saline water, dredged or dune sand on the fresh and hardened properties of concrete, including workability, setting time, compressive strength, and long-term durability (i.e., shrinkage, freeze-thaw, etc.) is of interest to this special publication.
Topics of interest-
• Effect of saline water, dredged or dune sand on fresh and hardened properties, and long-term durability of concrete
• Optimization of mixture proportions for saline water concrete, dredged or dune sand
• Use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) in saline water, dredged or dune sand concrete
• Compatibility of saline water, dredged or dune sand with alternative binders (e.g., polymers, geopolymers, alkali-activated materials)
• Development of performance-based guidelines for safe and efficient use of saline water, dredged or dune sand in concrete construction
• Use of nonmetallic reinforcement (i.e. FRP reinforcement) with saline water, dredged or dune sand concrete
• Case studies and completed and ongoing applications
• Quality control and quality management of saline water sources, dredged or dune sand sources for concrete production
• Environmental sustainability by using saline water, dredged or dune sand in concrete
The following are required for submission
