Mobile Concrete Technology Center (MCTC)
1:00 PM-6:00 PM
The FHWA’s Mobile Concrete Technology Center (MCTC) introduces agency and industry personnel to the state-of-the-art concrete technology in materials selection, mixture design, field and laboratory testing, and pavement evaluation. The MCTC’s current focus is on new test methods related to the Performance Engineered Mixture (PEM) initiative and other concrete technologies. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the new PEM tests that deal with design and construction of concrete mixtures for performance. Additionally, the FHWA MCTC showcases other concrete technologies. Many of these technologies are state of the art, provide information in real time, and correlate to performance better than traditional concrete tests. Check out the MTCT website for detailed information on test equipment. When you visit the MCTC, you will see demonstrations and interactive opportunities for several new and innovative concrete test methods, including:~ Super Air Meter (SAM): New technology to measure the air void system of concrete~ Surface Resistivity: Rapid measurement to indicate permeability of concrete~ Box Test: New technology to assess workability of slipform concrete~ Float Test: New technology to assess finishability of non-slipform concrete~ Calorimetry: Real-time assessment of the chemical consistency of concrete~ MIT-DOWEL-Scan – Real-time assessment of dowel bar alignment~ UltraSonic Pulse Echo (MIRA) – Forensic tool to detect defects and rebar on existing concrete
