What other uses are there for the pulse velocity?

Q. What other uses are there for the pulse velocity?

A. Decreasing pulse velocity indicates a lower elastic modulus and hence is an indicator of deterioration. It is also an indicator of cracking; weak pulse signals at the receiver indicate an interrupted path between transducers. Care should be exercised because low velocity can be due to causes other than to a change in the material property, such as using an inaccurate path length in calculating the velocity.
