Abstract:
In order to avoid corrosion of the reinforcing steel in concrete slabs in parking garages, the ingress of water and particularly chloride ions has to be avoided. Waterproofing membranes based on this elastomeric adhesive coatings have been applied effectivley in both bridge and parking decks to reduce the rate of deterioration caused by corrosion. This paper reviews available information on elastomeric coatings to assist in selection, installation, and maintenance of water-proofing membrances for parking garages.
