Abstract:
Current limits do not allow prestressed concrete to have a water-soluble chloride ion content exceeding 0.06 percent by weight of cement at 28 days. This low allowable limit makes the use of calcium chloride admixture unattractive since the small quantities permitted render no useful effect. These requirements appear to be based on research and not on field experience. This paper presents results of field experience and laboratory tests supporting a proposal that chloride limits for precast, prestressed concrete be set at the same level as those for conventionally reinforced concrete.
