Abstract:
Impact tests of 15 reinforced concrete slabs indi-cated that the use of supplementary reinforcement in the form of a series of overlapping spiral colls increased their impact resistance by I l/2 to approximately 2r/2 times with energy loads varying from 1400 ft-lb to 5000 ft-lb. Th e relative impact resistance with respect to weight per square foot of slab and weight of reinforcement in a square foot of slab was determined for various patterns of the bar reinforce- ment in the slab and for various thicknesses of slab The tests were made at the National Bureau of Stand: ards for the Maritime Commission.
