Abstract:
In view of a large variation in "n", current exact column analyses and design charts are examined. Simplified methods of design for members under combined axial and bending load are proposed. University of Illinois tests, 1936 series, are recorded; effectiveness of protective shells and effect of axis of loading are discussed. Previous tests by Bach and Graf in Germany, Wis-consin tests, and Illinois 1925 tests are reviewed. Charts and tables for the simplified analysis and design are presented.
