Abstract:
The connection of discrete concrete elements to each other is often required in precast construction and in the rehabilitation of existing structures. Connection methods that can eliminate or reduce connection hardware between discrete elements may provide an economic advantage, as well as reduce overall construction time and inconvenience. Fourteen specimens were tested to evaluate the connection between adjacent precast wall panels and to determine minimum details for satisfactory connection performance. The specimens were tested by applying cyclic shear across the connection interface. The test results were analyzed, and a rationale for design was developed. Design and detailing recommendations are presented.
