Abstract:
The complexity and uncertainties in loadings, control, dynamic response, changing environmental conditions, and degrading mechanisms create both challenges and opportunities for improving the design and performance of support structures for large wind turbines. These are explored with an emphasis on fatigue, extended design lives, structural identification, and health monitoring.
