Abstract:
Twenty-seven full-scale frame corners were tested under monotonic closing load to study the effect of reinforcing detail on the performance of beam-to-column knee connection. The failure mechanism, crack patterns of the frame corners, strain distribution in the tension bars along the lap length, and the load-carrying capacity of the specimens are presented. Based on the observed behavior of corner connections, it is concluded that improper detailing could significantly affect the strength and ductility of the beam-to-column knee connections.
