Abstract:
Design and construction sequencing of a 2800 ft (853 m) long cut-and-cover tunnel on the west end of Mercer Island, Washington, is discussed. Structural elements in the First Hill Lid include walls, girders, and slabs; operating systems include ventilation, traffic surveillance and control, illumination, fire protection and control, and driver information systems; landscaping includes bike paths, a park, and recreation areas on top of the lid.
