Abstract: A hypothesis for creep is presented in terms of the microstructure and properties of hydrated cement. An experimental investigation, designed to provide a quantitative basis for the hypothesis, is briefly described. Procedures are presented for estimating creep in terms of the volumetric composition of the concrete, the degree of hydration, and the observed free shrinkage characteristics.
