Abstract:
Even when moisture vapor emission rate test results for concrete slabs-on-ground meet a flooring material manufacturer’s requirements, serious problems, such as adhesive failure, mold, mildew, and bubbling of sheet goods can develop after the flooring materials are installed. In this article, the authors discuss conditions that contribute to unreliable emission-test results, give suggestions for obtaining meaningful results, and provide recommendations for slab-on-ground design and construction that minimize the possibility of moisture related flooring problems.
