Abstract:
Portland cement mortar and concrete form an excellent protecting cover for iron and steel under ordinary conditions, but when concrete has steel embedded in it under such conditions that there are electric currents passing through the steel and from the steel to the concrete, there is a set up a corrosive action due to electrolysis that may rapidly deteriorate both the metal and the concrete.
