Abstract:
Considerable interest has been shown in the methods for the design of concrete mixtures developed at the Strucutural Materials Research Laboratory through the co-operation of the Portland Cement Association and Lewis Institute. These notes were prepared with the view of bringing about a better understanding of the applicants of these methods to the control of the quality of concrete in the field. Professor Abrams has just told you something of the underlying prinicples of the theory of concrete mixtures. I will outline briefly a proedure for applying this theory to proportioning concrete. These methods may be easlity applied in the field by the average contractor or engineer, without his delving into the so-called "mysteries" of the theory of concrete proportions.
