Abstract:
Presents a rapid method of obtaining the preliminary dimensions of a shear wall in a high rise concrete building for gravity and wind loads. The method is based on designing the wall for gravity loads only and selecting the proportions such that wind forces do not control the design. The problem is extended into a cost optimization study.
