Abstract:
The rational design of building frames founded on soil requires a consideration of the effect of settlements caused by the building loads. This paper discusses a procedure for estimating the stresses in such frames due to unsymmetrical differential settlement of the foundations. The procedure is based on slope-deflection method for analyzing ridgid frames, but adapts it to permit a relatively rapid solution by the use of sucessive approximations.
