Abstract:
It is not necessary for in the interior and exterior of a dam to have equal durablity.. By placing 4-bag concrete on exterior faces and lean mass concrete (2 1/2-bag mix) in the interior, it is possible to achieve both durablity and economy in gravity dam construction. Lean mass concrete is important in minimizing volume-change cracking; the enusing economy is an additional feature. The use of interior and exterior mixes in Corps of Engineers dams is described.
