Abstract: A method is developed for the stress analysis and design of a floating or monolithic type of slab foundation that supports edge loads. The method is applied to the foundation of a typical one-story wood frame school building. Thin type of foundation effects a considerable saving in cost over conventional concrete wall footings with a separate floor slab.
