Abstract:
The fundamental behavior of concrete members in transferring shear load is not fully understood, and in some cases designs have resulted in costly failures. One such failure occurred when portions of some U. S. Air Force rigid frame warehouses collapsed. General nature of distress is described; materials and construction procedure are analyzed briefly. A critical review of the design suggested some points suhjrct to question. Some general comments are offered on shear design.
