Abstract:
Two full-sized prestressed concrete beams, identical with those made for Mandal Bridge in Norway, were tested to failure. The elastic and plastic de-formations of the concrete due to prestressing and the shrinkage due to the drying of the concrete wore observed. The load at first cracking agreed well with the computed value, and the strains measured in the beams agreed fairly well with the computed stresses. The load at failure corresponded with the load computed on the basis of the so-called "simplified theory".
