Abstract:
An investigation aimed at studying the effect of variations in stirrups on the torque capacity of reinforced concrete beams is reported. Twenty-seven beam specimens covering rectangular and flat beams subjected to pure torsion have been tested. Based on the results from these tests and the results of 95 other tests available from the liturature an empirical relationship for the contribution by stirrups to torque capacity is proposed, which is applicable over a wide range of the volume ratio of longitudinal steel to stirrup steel.
