Title: Pressure of Concrete on Formwork - A Review
Author(s): N. J. Gardner
Publication: Journal Proceedings
Appears on pages(s): 744-753
Keywords: concrete construction; fly ash; formwork (construction); fresh con-cretes;lateral pressure; loads (forces); placing; plasticizers; slags; temperature;vibration.
Abstract:Recent literature relating to pressure exerted on vertical form faces by freshly placed concrete is reviewed, and a theoretical basis is presented to relate form pressure calculations to fundamental rheological properties. Published lateral measured pressures are compared with values predicted by the accepted ACI 347 method and by a recently proposed equation. The proposed equation is shown to be statistically more reliable and to have wider applicability than does the ACI 347 method.
