Description

This webinar is jointly sponsored by NEx: An ACI Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials and the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

Using synthetic organic polymers to stabilize weak soils for different civil infrastructures has gained traction over the last decade. As a relatively new material targeting for soil treatment for engineering applications, synthetic polymers are bringing tremendous opportunities to civil engineers, while at the same time, facing many challenges. In this webinar, we will review the history, current research and practice advances, and future opportunities of using synthetic polymers in soil stabilization. Common polymer products that have been used in soil stabilization will be reviewed. Current research developments on material selection, mix design, laboratory testing, field applications with respect to this new technique will be discussed. The benefits, challenges, and potentials of using these synthetic polymers in soil treatment for civil engineering projects will also be explored.
