Abstract:
The article is the winning entry in the first ACI Young Professionals Essay Contest. The author describes her path from an undergraduate student dreaming to become a structural engineer to finding a job as a petrographer. She encourages civil engineering students “to have an open mind and be willing to take a chance when new opportunities are presented” when choosing their careers.
