Abstract:
The use of coating materials to reduce cavitation damage in concrete hydraulic structures has achieved only limited success in previous ap-plications. The coating’s adhesion to the substrate is one of the most important factors that affect the overall performance of a coating system in a cavitating environment. Utilizing accelerated laboratory and full-scale field cavitation tests, cavitation-resistant coating sys-tems with superior bond strengths were identified. Efforts were made to further improve the adhesion between the coatings and concrete substrates through the use of ionizing irradiation.
