Detailed Webinar Instructions
Description
This webinar is Part 4 of a six-part series on the finite element method (FEM) for approximate structural analysis. The series presents practical concepts for linear elastic finite element analysis of structures, including preprocessing, analysis, and post-processing. The series is intended to bridge mathematical concepts and physical engineering behavior so practitioners can better evaluate finite element structural models and analysis results. Viewing the previous parts is encouraged but not required.
Part 4 introduces simultaneous equations used in finite element structural analysis and explains key physical parameters in static and dynamic analysis, including stiffness, damping, mass, displacement, velocity, acceleration, deformation, force, and stress. The webinar also describes solution approaches, data storage considerations, matrix optimization, and common warnings and errors that may occur during finite element analysis.
Table of Contents
Learning objectives:
1. Describe the role of simultaneous equations in finite element structural analysis.
2. Explain key physical parameters used in static and dynamic finite element analysis, including stiffness, damping, mass, displacement, velocity, acceleration, deformation, force, and stress.
3. Identify common solution approaches and data storage considerations used in finite element analysis.
4. Explain how matrix sparsity, conditioning, and other optimization concepts can affect analysis execution, warnings, errors, and interpretation of results.
