Table of Contents

Part 1 Learning Objectives:

1. Explain basic designs and types of unreinforced and reinforced slabs-on-ground used for commercial, industrial, and other facilities.

2. Develop pre-bid drawings, specifications, and preconstruction meetings for construction of slabs-on-ground

3. Discuss proper subgrade and subbase preparations, and site improvement techniques to support a new slab-on-ground.

4. Recall best practices for placing, finishing, testing, and curing of slabs-on-ground to better resist various environmental exposures and premature cracking.

5. Describe slab jointing systems and strategies for unreinforced and reinforced concrete slabs-on-ground.

Part 2 Learning Objectives:

1. Explain concrete mix designs that maintain workability and durability while achieving adequate strength and resistance to environmental exposures.

2. Describe different reinforcement systems for slabs-on-ground such as welded-wire, steel bar, and macro-fiber and micro-fiber reinforcement.

3. Explain batching, delivery, and placement of concrete during hot and cold weather conditions.

4. Describe various curing and protection methods including wet cures, chemical compound cures, surface sealers, densifiers, and epoxies.
