Detailed Webinar Instructions
This webinar is jointly sponsored by NEx: An ACI Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials and the American Concrete Institute (ACI).
Substitution of traditional steel rebars by their FRP alternative is well known and documented in construction industry. By extension, many applications in ground engineering benefit of similar substitution of the rock-anchor, soil-nail, rock-bolt by composite alternatives. For many years, such alternatives were limited to temporary applications, where steel would have created obstructions. Thanks to the many studies on long-term behavior of FRP reinforcement for concrete structures, composite materials are more and more used in permanent application in the field of geotechnical engineering, especially when it comes to tunnels and slope stabilizations. This presentation will review the evolution of the systems available and their applications.
Table of Contents
1. Explain the main properties of FRP systems that are relevant to ground engineering.
2. List the different systems of FRP composites available for geotechnical work.
3. Identify the pros and cons compared to traditional ground anchors.
4. Review successful application in project cases studies.
