Detailed Webinar Instructions

Description

This is a two-part webinar series.

Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) materials have emerged as an alternative for producing reinforcing bars for concrete structures. Due to other differences in the physical and mechanical behavior of FRP materials versus steel, unique guidance on the engineering and construction of concrete structures reinforced with FRP bars is necessary. ACI 440.1R-15, “Guide for the Design and Construction of Structural Concrete Reinforced with FRP Bars,” provides guidance on the use of this material.

Part 1 of the webinar discusses the material characteristics, durability, and general design considerations for FRP bars.

Part 2 reviews shear design, flexural design, development length, and presents various FRP design examples.

Table of Contents

Learning Objectives

Design and Construction with FRP Bar (Part 1)

1. Understand the mechanical properties of FRP bars

2. Describe the behavior of FRP bars

3. Describe the flexural design procedure of concrete members internally reinforced with FRP bars

4. Describe the use of internal FRP bars for serviceability design

Design and Construction with FRP Bar (Part 2)

1. Explain the shear design procedure of concrete members using internal FRP bars

2. Review the procedure for determining the development and splice length of FRP bars

3. Discuss the use of FRP bars in slabs-on-ground

4. Recognize the development length of hooked FRP bars is different than hooked steel bar provisions in ACI 318
