This Symposium Publication contains 28 papers that were presented at an International Symposium on Confined Concrete, held at Hunan University, Changsha, China, in June 2004. Topics include Performance-Based Design and Seismic Analysis, Confined Concrete Models, Finite Element Modeling, Confined Concrete in Steel and Concrete Composites, and FRP Confined Concrete.

In June of 2004, an International Symposium on Confined Concrete (ISCC-2004) was held at Hunan University, Changsha, China. The technical content of the symposium was sponsored by Joint ACI-ASCE Committee 441, Reinforced Concrete Columns. Major sponsoring agencies for ISCC-2004 included the American Concrete Institute (ACI), Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Japan Concrete Institute (JCI), and the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ).

The objective of the symposium was to provide an open forum for researchers around the world to exchange information and to thoroughly discuss topics related to confined concrete modeling, testing, design implementation, and related issues.

The guidance and assistance of ACI staff in finalizing the special publication are gratefully acknowledged. Particular appreciation is extended to Hunan University for hosting the symposium, and to the University of Southern California and the University of California at Davis for co-organizing the symposium.
