Concrete Materials and Properties
0.05 CEU (0.5 PDH)
This course covers the materials that go into a typical concrete mixture and the important properties of both hardened and unhardened concrete. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to describe the standard components of a concrete mixture including cementitious materials, aggregates, water, and admixtures; and explain the properties of hardened and unhardened concrete.
Curing and Protection
0.1 CEU (1 PDH)
This course introduces the concept of curing concrete, methods used to cure and protect concrete from weather extremes, and the environmental benefits of the use of concrete. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to describe the importance of curing and various curing techniques; explain the impact of hot and cold weather on the overall quality of hardened concrete and various measures to prevent early drying or cracks in concrete; and explain the green aspects of concrete as a building material.
Mixing and Placing
This course gives an overview of several common ways that concrete can be batched, mixed, transported to the job site, and distributed to the point of placement. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to understand the importance of properly batching and mixing concrete; identify the equipment and machinery used for mixing; explain the need for proper handling and placing of concrete; understand various types of concrete handling and placing technology; and identify various ways of properly consolidating concrete.
