Title: Locating Reinforcement in Concrete
Author(s): Luke M. Snell
Publication: Concrete International
Appears on pages(s): 19-23
Abstract:An evaluation of the cover and spacing of reinforcement in an existing concrete structure is usually performed by selective testing and statistical determination. There are two similar but distinctly different reasons why reinforcement cover and spacing may be required: to determine if the reinforcement is in compliance with the contract specifications, and to analyze a building for which the contract documents are not available. This paper illustrates techniques that can be used to analyze both types of structures. The paper also presents the types of statistical information that must be considered in the evaluation of an existing concrete structure.
