Abstract:Phil Crosby, the author of several books on management and business trends, noted in his first book Quality is Free that: "Quality is like sex - everyone is for it, under certain conditions of course." "Everyone thinks they understand it, but they wouldn't want to explain it." "Everyone thinks it is a matter of following natural inclinations - after all we do get along somehow." "Most people feel the problems are caused by others - if only they would take the time to do things right." Crosby may have been correct, but the divorce rate today is about the same as it was when he wrote that statement several years ago and people are probably more confused than ever about quality. TQM, CQI, QM, re-engineering, excellence - these are just a few of the acronyms and buzzwords bombarding us nearly on a daily basis. It's amazing how these terms are used without definitions. We seem to be mesmerized by buzzwords and our media amplify the effect!
