Abstract:
Major shear cracking of both girders of a multispan reinforced concrete bridge occurred about 10 years after it was completed. Low-strength concrete was discovered in the failure region, but it also appears that axial tension was also a very important factor. The bridge was evaluated and repaired and is in service today without load restrictions.
