Abstract:
The two branches of the concrete industry, precasting and in situ casting, developed side-by-side starting with (and in some cases before) the develop-ment of portland cement. The purpose of this article is to review briefly the history of the development of precast concrete as a manufactured product and to deduce industry trends that have occurred, are occurring, or may occur.
