Title: Use Less Cement
Author(s): Bryant Mather
Publication: Concrete International
Volume: 2

Abstract:In a series of references and quotations, the author suggests that less cement can be used in certain cir-cumstances. Results of investigations suggest that mass concrete having appropriate levels of relevant properties for dam construction can be produced with cement quantities as low as 60 lb per cu yd (36 kglm3) and with water content of less than 80 lb per cu yd (48 kg/m3). Workable mixtures and compressive strengths are discussed as well as the need for investigating or modifying our present state of the art. It is suggested that special concrete mixtures should be priced ac-cordingly.
