Abstract:
Discusses the problem of concrete durability with reference primarily to highway bridge structures- lo- cated in regions subject to severe frost action. l-our major types of deterioration are defined and illustrated and several specific matters which have bear- ing on the problem, including the effect of construc-t i on variables, modern versus old fashioned cements, air entrainment, and the so-called cement-alkalj ag- gregate reaction, are discussed. The report concludes with a series of recommendations indicating correc- tive measures which should be taken.
