Abstract:
Diablo Dam is the second major unit to be completed in the comprehensive development to furnish hydro- electric power for the city of Seattle. The concrete was designed and specified with particular recognition that the hydrostatic pressures would be great, that permeability IS in direct ratio to pressure, that any dissolving of the cement by percolating water is proportional to the quantity of percolating water, that it was necessary to obtain concrete of low perme- ability, and that the arch type of dam, of relatively thin section, logically requires a stronger, more nearly impermeable concrete than does one of gravity section.
