Abstract:
The function of research and practice as sources of knowledge, and the utilization of this knowledge in the preparation of codes or specifications are considered From a philoscphical and historical point of view. Examples drawn from current or past ACI Building Codes are cited to illustrate the roles played by research and by engineering practice in the drafting or revision of codes.
