Abstract:Presents a preliminary investigation studying the behavior of a reinforced concrete, pin-supported portal frame subjected to sway forces. The program involved the testing of seven frames: four frames were subjected to cyclic sway forces and three frames were loaded to failure with a single sway force. The objectives of this project were to study the influence of the placement of the reinforcing steel at the joints on the ultimate load capacity of the structure and to examine the effects of cyclic loading on the behavior of a reinforced concrete frame.
