Abstract:Equations for the working stress design of symmetrically reinforced short and long columns subject to flexure are pre-sented. For rectangular columns, an alternative method slightly divergent from ACI 318-63, but possessing some advantages, is also given. For biaxial flexure weighted averages of some parameters are used, and all design equations are given in a form which applies to both uniaxial and biaxial flexure.
